Challenging Cellulite

No matter how many trips to the gym or diets a woman endures, stubborn cellulite can be an almost unbearable problem for many women. Non-invasive treatment Thermage has upped the stakes in the battle against the dreaded orange peel

It is estimated that up to 90 per cent of women in the UK suffer from cellulite to some degree or another. Furthermore, you don't have to be overweight to have cellulite as it can affect any woman including top models and Hollywood stars.
Dr Rita Rakus, one of the UK's leading cosmetic doctors, is very excited about what
Thermage, a safe, non-invasive FDA approved procedure, can offer in tightening and contouring your skin. "After treating thousands of patients with Thermage on the face we are now able to treat the whole body and especially target cellulite with the new revolutionary anti-cellulite tip Thermage has developed that can yield results after just one treatment."

How does the Thermage procedure work?

To understand how Thermage works, it helps to know a little about how your skin works.

The skin is made up of three distinct layers: a visible outer layer on the surface called the epidermis, a collagen-rich under layer beneath the surface called the dermis, and an inner layer beneath the dermis called the subcutaneous layer (also known as the fat layer) that has a web of collagen fibres running through it.
As you age, collagen in these three layers breaks down and the skin begins to sag, wrinkle and dimple. Naturally, treatments that work on just the surface can't do anything to restore the collagen in the dermis or the inner subcutaneous layer of your skin.

Thermage's unique Capacitive Radio Frequency (CRF) technology safely heats your skin's under layer and the web of collagen in the inner layer, causing an immediate tightening as well as improved tone and texture. New collagen growth means that improvements will continue for four to six months following treatment.

The deep heating action of Thermage not only tightens the skin's surface it also gives a noticeably smoother look, reducing the appearance of cellulite, by restoring the collagen connective tissues and improving blood flow to the tissues.

Other benefits

Thermage also has fantastic results when applied to the face. It can be used across your entire face, including forehead, eyes, nasolabial folds, jaw line, jowls and the area under your chin.

The results

Immediate results from the Thermage treatment are visible, according to Dr Rakus, with an improvement of up to ten per cent which continues to get better and better over time. Measurable tightening and contouring improvements can appear gradually over a two to six month time period following a single Thermage treatment session.

Unlike many laser procedures requiring four or more sessions, a single Thermage skin treatment produces results in the majority of patients.

Dr Rakus explains: "The procedure is slightly uncomfortable rather than painful but the great thing is that you look completely normal when you leave the clinic! There is no redness and swelling. The only downside in my opinion is that I feel that Thermage can take up to six to nine months to give the full result and some patients want immediate results."

Because all individuals are different it is, however, not possible to completely predict who will benefit from treatment with the Thermage device. A small percentage of patients do not respond to the Thermage treatment at all.
The Thermage skin treatment procedure immediately tightens existing collagen and stimulates new natural collagen production for up to six months following the treatment. Unpublished reports by experienced cosmetic doctors indicate that results from the Thermage treatment may last for years and are based on the patient's natural ageing process.

Dr Rakus finds the Thermage treatment is proving a real draw for prospective patients. "We are the fifth busiest clinic for Thermage procedures in the world, We now have many patients coming from overseas -Russia, the Middle East, all over Europe, even from the US - who book in for a whole week and have the whole body treatment."
